The CSU seeks to achieve its objectives through the following activities :

TEACHING

Teaching classes are conducted at all the constituent campuses of the CSU to teach the syllabi prepared by the CSU from Prakshastri to Acharya levels. Other Sanskrit institutions affiliated with or run by the CSU also conduct teaching work as per the above-mentioned syllabi.

TRAINING

One-year teacher-training programmes leading to award of Shikshashastri (equivalent to B.Ed.) and Shiksha Acharya (equivalent to M.Ed) degrees are conducted in the campuses.

RESEARCH

In all the campuses of the CSU, students are registered as research scholars on the basis of success in the All India Entrance Test conducted by the CSU or NET, and on the successful completion of the research work they are awarded Vidyavaridhi degree which is equivalent to Ph.D.

The CSU conducts research programmes in various branches of Sanskrit literature.

The CSU is promoting research on ancient manuscripts.

PUBLICATION

The CSU publishes the research theses and rare Sanskrit manuscripts edited by the constituent campuses.

Sanskrit Vimarsha a Half-yearly Research Journal is being published by the CSU Headquarter. In addition, various Journals and magazines are being published by its constituent Campuses too.

Financial aid for publication of rare Sanskrit books through publishers.

The CSU has been publishing book series from time to time.

The CSU has been publishing Sanskrit Varta, a Quarterly Newsletter.

COLLECTION AND PRESERVATION OF SANSKRIT MANUSCRIPTS

The CSU collects and preserves Sanskrit manuscripts and makes the copies of the same available to other organizations after charging certain fees. The manuscript museum of Shri Ganganath Jha Campus, Allahabad houses more than fifty thousand manuscripts.

MUKTASWADHYAYAPEETHAM

For conducting different courses under the Directorate of Distance Education, Muktaswadhyayapeetham and Swadhyaya Kendra has been established at the CSU Headquarters. Similarly, Muktaswadhyaya Kendras have also been established in the various campuses of the CSU.

NON-FORMAL SANSKRIT TEACHING

The CSU also conducts non-formal Sanskrit teaching courses through non-formal Sanskrit teaching centre and self-study material (Diksha course) for Sanskrit and nonsanskrit students of various social status and age groups. A two year Sanskrit Teaching course is also conducted through correspondence.

SANSKRIT LANGUAGE TEACHER TRAINING

The CSU organizes teacher training programme for Sanskrit language teaching. For this, the CSU holds an all-India entrance test. The successful candidates are given intensive 20-day training and after successful completion of the training programme are deputed as teachers for three-months in various Non-formal Sanskrit teaching centres.

ADVANCED TEACHING OF SANSKRIT CLASSICS

The CSU organizes specialized teaching programmes in which Sanskrit classics are taught.

PREPARATION OF SANSKRIT SELF-STUDY MATERIAL

The CSU is also engaged in preparing Sanskrit teaching material in print and electronic formats. Under this activity, five Diksha courses have been prepared.

BROADCAST/TELECAST OF SANSKRIT PROGRAMMES THROUGH ELECTRONIC MEDIA

The CSU telecasts daily Sanskrit programmes on Bhasha-Mandakini Channel of IGNOU'S Gyan Darshan and Sanskrit language teaching programmes thrice a week on DD India and DD Bharati.

CONDUCT OF EXAMINATIONS

The CSU conducts examinations for all the classes which are taught in its various campuses. Those securing first position in the class as well as in the Shastra concerned, are awarded 'Gold Medal'.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The CSU awards scholarships to meritorious students studying in the various campuses of the CSU and other educational institutions.
